The Future of Islam

13

‘’Allah never changes a favor (condition) which He has conferred upon a people until they change what is in their own selves, and surely Allah is Hearing, Knowing .’’

(The Holy Quran)

The Muslim world, and indeed the rest of the world, has been overcome by commercial, technological, monetarist and political dominance of the West. More than a thousand million Muslims are divided into hundreds of economically impoverished, politically and socially divided groups. Whenever a people forget that the purpose of this life is to know the Lifegiver, they become denuded of any creative energy or vitality, spiritual or material. The rest of the world is also undergoing a similar process of fragmentation and erosion of moral and higher human values. The early power and oppressive dominance of the Church with its superstitious dogmas were finally rendered ineffectual by the scientific and industrial Revolution, which reduced its power to mere ceremony. Real power went into manufacturing, production, finance, and commerce. Until that time, however, commerce had been subservient or married to the church. Whenever commerce superseded the authority of the church it was broken, as in the case of the Knights Templar, who was in effect the first European banking system.

By nineteenth century the power of money and banking had overtaken every other power base. The advent of sophisticated industry, vast supra-national commercial concerns, and the two World Wars of the twentieth century have globalized the power of money. With the crumbling of Communism the cantilever equilibrium of Capitalism has disappeared and there is no clear political direction for the so-called world leaders. The church lies defunct, the creative manufacturing period is effectively over, and the hopes aroused by the promise of science and money together solving the human problem have been shattered. In the post Gulf, war era, the fragments of atomization of the human situation are evident everywhere. This is the day of reckoning, the day of which Holy Qur’an says ‘’ Whither to flee? (17.10). This is precisely the point where grassroots awakening to original Islam is most likely, initially on an individual basis and leading later to collective and societal communities.

In the present world situation there are several factors that will influence the future of Islam. With the coming of the jet age and satellite communication, the world has indeed become a closely interlinked global entity. The egalitarian advantages of independent civil and municipal services are universally acknowledged. The military is no longer of any consequence as it is subservient to the monetary system. The ultimate decision for the deployment of military force in the West is based on economic factors.

Muslims in the East are beginning to realize the extent of the erosion of both their material and moral inheritance. The rapid rate of population growth in many Muslim Countries compounded by increasing literacy and higher education is bound to produce greater awareness and deeper natural connections between Muslims in all parts of the world, in spite of state controls and political barriers.

It is unlikely that Muslim countries will go through the same rational and evolutionary processes of economic union that have taken place in Europe. People themselves will begin to find that they have much in common with other Muslim across the border because Islam does not differentiate between race and color.

They will begin to discover the collective strength which they had lost, and will rediscover their true Din. Artificial state borders will be ignored and in time disappear in the same way that Soviet Union has disintegrated. As the so- called ‘’Muslim states’’ become ineffective and redundant a new system will arise which will be totally different from anything we have experienced to date.

It will not be based on a western-style federation or union, themselves the sophisticated products of a long history of economic rationalization, for while Muslims may have adopted Western-style civil services and the ideals of democracy, they have no concomitant technological or monetarist tradition to support these structures. What is more likely to happen is a spontaneous and organic rise of coalitions between people, but not based on a centrally governed state. ‘’Self-regulating anarchy’’ may well be the most appropriate description of the early stages of the new order.

Islam will not rise universally in any shape that we can predict because it has never before occurred on a global scale. The world is now so interlinked, however, that Islam will make its impact in a manner which no one can reliably forecast. An important factor is the growing number of Muslims in the Western world, which is estimated at over 20 million if we include North America. Whilst this number is steadily increasing (Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world), awareness of Islamic teachings as well as commitment to the Din is growing in parallel. Arabs nationalism and statism are ideas from the past. In the meantime, Islam has broken loose from the past barriers of tribal or cultural confinements. The original prophetic teachings are as clear and timeless as ever. Original Islam will be rediscovered once people become tired of looking for salvation in the godless post-economic deserts. For the intelligent, sincere seeker there is no excuse or escape from the prophetic way.

The future of Islam will start, not with some evangelical event but by simple transformation through suffering and destitution. It will begin with love for true Islam in the hearts of men and women, from which will rise the post –modern Islamic way of life, bubbling out beyond and above state boundaries, selfish regulations, and all other artificial barriers. Islam recognizes only one barrier, and that is ignorance of Allah, for it leads to living in this world without a spiritual ideal and framework of moral conduct. To live truly in Islam is to be accountable to Allah at all times, remembering death with every breath and it is from that remembrance that every instant of life becomes a living experience.

The awakened Muslim interacts in this world as a courteous wayfarer, taking what is essential to continue on the journey of discovery. The path begins by acknowledging the outer creational world and leads to the discovery of the ever-present Divine Light within. When this mature state is achieved, then the original human virtues of love, generosity, tolerance, and service to others become the order of the day and the foundation for a moral and just society.

How to proceed….. How to maintain ??? The business and the virtual of business as enhancement and revenue generating and all other important elements that open the doors to explore

The Business Development Strategy

0

Is used to underpin your main Business Plan and essentially it sets out a standard approach for developing new opportunities, either from within existing accounts or by proactively targeting brand new potential accounts and then working to close them.

This document highlights the key issues you should consider prior to compiling your own plan and will hopefully guide you logically through a proven framework.

The key word is ‘Strategy’, because you are creating a workable and achievable set of objectives in order to exceed your annual target.

Starting Point: ——The key words are —Who? What? Where? When? Which? Why? How?

  • Who – are you going to target?
  • What – do you want to sell them?
  • Where – are they located?
  • When – will you approach them?
  • Which – are the appropriate target personnel?
  • Why – would they want to meet with you?
  • How – will you reach them?

If you have conducted regular account reviews with your key accounts during the previous twelve months, you should be aware of any new opportunities that will surface during the next twelve months. You will also, when assessing what percentage of your annual target usually comes from existing accounts, need to review data over the last two or three years. (It is likely that you can apply Pareto i.e. 80% of your business will probably come from existing accounts and in fact 80% of your total revenue will come from just 20% of your customers/clients)

You will be left with a balance – i.e. “20% of my business next year will come from new opportunities” – therefore you can then begin to allocate your selling time accordingly.

Ideal Customer profiling: ——— Pro-active business development demands that we create an ideal target at the front end – i.e. an Ideal Customer Profile. The essential characteristics you will need to consider are:

  • Industrial Sector
  • Geographical Location (Demographics)
  • Size of organizations (Turnover, number of employees etc)
  • Financial Trends
  • Psychographics – i.e. Philosophical compatibility

Many strategic sales professionals merely profile their best existing clients and try to replicate them – there’s nothing wrong with doing this but we should always remember that we are seeking an IDEAL and we can always improve on what we already have…‘New’ Opportunities From Within ‘Old’ Accounts:

Because it costs approximately ten times as much, to first locate and then sell to a new customer as it does an existing one (although these costs are rarely reflected in the cost of sales), it is essential that we fully develop our existing accounts working upwards, downwards and sideways, thus making the most of the (hopefully) excellent reputation we have developed already.

Most corporate accounts have several divisions, departments, sites, even country offices and you must satisfy yourself that you have exhausted every possible avenue. Don’t be afraid to ask the question “Who else should I be talking to in your organization”?

Developing New Opportunities: ——There are a number of ways in which we can target new opportunities e.g.

  • Direct Mail
  • Telephone Canvassing
  • Researching Archived Files For Customers Who Used To Buy From Your Company
  • Exhibitions
  • Seminars
  • User Groups
  • E-Mail Campaigns
  • Referrals
  • Qualified Leads
  • Advertising

Not all of these will be appropriate to your particular industry, but you should not be afraid to experiment – i.e. challenge the paradigm – and do not accept that just because a particular idea has not worked in the past that it will not do so in the future. (Remember when you were learning to walk – it didn’t work first time then!) The important thing is to make an early decision in terms of what you are going to try and then build this (those) ideas into your master plan.

A Typical Business Development Plan: ——–You should plan out the whole year and review / revise quarterly

  • List your existing accounts and plan what activities / actions need to be completed in order to fully exhaust all opportunities. You may for instance, plan to cover more bases within the decision making unit or contact associated companies or offices. The Strategic Account Profile can be used as a prompt.
  • Begin to target new accounts using business directories etc. and set targets per week / month / quarter i.e. I normally allow for eight hours per week as a minimum (Don’t forget to continually refer back to your Ideal Profile)
  • Then build in what assistance you need from your marketing function – i.e. qualified leads, seminars, exhibition attendance etc.
  • o Finally share your plan with your manager and then commit to it

You should also measure it against S.M.A.R.T.E.R. i.e. is it.

  • S.pecific
  • M.easurable
  • A.chievable
  • R.elevant
  • T.imed
  • E.xciting
  • R.ecorded

Linking With Your Commercial Plan: I have suggested that your Business Development Strategy, would link with your Master Business Plan but logically you should also integrate it into your Commercial Kit(this is a document that outlines your monthly, quarterly and annual targets) – specifically the areas that deal with new business generation, account management and development, four tier account lists etc.

These three documents when combined should drive and guide you through the next twelve months and beyond.

Successful Business Development

0

Often requires a multi-disciplinary approach beyond just “a sale to a customer.” A detailed strategy for growing the business in desirable ways is frequently necessary, which may involve financial, legal and advertising skills. Business development cannot be reduced to simple templates applicable to all or even most situations faced by real-world enterprises. Creativity in meeting new and unforeseen challenges is necessary to keep an enterprise on a path of sustainable growth.

An important aspect of successful business development is to follow a process of how you will assess a business idea or concept (project), decide whether to move forward with the project and build a business if it is decided to move forward. The five steps below help outline a simple process you can follow. The steps are not a rigid structure to follow. Rather they identify issues you need to address and when to address them.

Successful Businesses Development Services :

The Major philosophy is simple. We collect and analyze data of every market possible to bring to the consumer products and services that identify and address exactly what they want and need to the last decimal. Many are looking for your products and services somewhere else. They don’t know where you are. You don’t know how to access them and sell your products to them.

  • Your online presence known to your target customers.
  • Identify your target customers and enrich the potential of your Web presence.

Business development includes a number of techniques designed to grow an economic enterprise. Such techniques include, but are not limited to, assessments of marketing opportunities and target markets, intelligence gathering on customers and competitors, generating leads for possible sales, follow-up sales activity, formal proposal writing and business model design. Business development involves evaluating a business and then realizing its full potential, using such tools as marketing, sales, information management and customer service. For a sound company able to withstand competitors, business development never stops but is an ongoing process. You just need to focus on accurate business development services rendering you the most profit. Developing business development services is an important strategy for achieving competitiveness and sustainable growth for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These services include training, consultancy and advisory services, marketing assistance, information, technology development and transfer, business linkage promotion, and linkages to finance and financial services. Business development services assist your business with factors such as beginning, growing and managing a star-up business. Understanding the business world and what it all involves can be stressful. Business development involves evaluating a business and then realizing its full potential, using such tools as:

A sound organization aiming to withstand competitors never stops business development, but engages in it as an ongoing process. Business-development roles may have one of two modes:

  • Sales-oriented (client-facing); or
  • An operational function to support sales.

In a sales role, business development could concentrate on developing strategic-channel relationships or on general sales. This emerges from analysis of the varied job descriptions found in job-search engines, especially in the UK. In the US, the term “capture management” appears as an alternative job or role title, typically used when describing business development as an operational function to support the selling function of a company. The Association of Proposal Management Professionals have produced the “Capture Management Lifecycle” that describes the process in three broad stages:

  • Pre-bid phase
  • Bid phase
  • Post-bid phase

Small to medium-sized companies often do not establish procedures for business development, instead relying on their existing contacts. Or people in such companies may assume that because they know people in high places that this will solve any business-development problems and that somehow new financial transactions will come to them. Such thinking can have significant ramifications if one cannot exploit those relationships, which very often [citation needed] remain personal or weak. Such a situation may result in no new sales in the pipeline. Business development professionals frequently have had earlier experience in financial services, investment banking or management consulting; although many find their route to this area by climbing the corporate ladder in functions such as operations management or sales.

Skill sets and experience for business-development specialists usually consist of a mixture of the following (depending on the business requirements):

  • Marketing
  • Legal
  • Strategy
  • Finance
  • Proposal management or capture management
  • Sales experience

The “pipeline” refers to flow of potential clients which a company has started developing. Business-development staff assign to each potential client in the pipeline a percent chance of success, with projected sales-volumes attached. Planners can use the weighted average of all the potential clients in the pipeline to project staffing to manage the new activity when finalized. Enterprises usually support pipelines with some kind of CRM (customer relationship management) tool or CRM-database, either web-based (such as the salesforce.com software-as-a-service solution) or an in-house system. Sometimes business development specialists manage and analyze the data to produce sales management information (MI). Such MI could include:

  • Reasons for wins/losses
  • Progress of opportunities in relation to the sales process
  • Top performing salespeople/sales channels
  • Sales of services/products

For larger and well-established companies, especially in technology-related industries, the term “business development” often refers to setting up and managing strategic relationships and alliances with other, third-party companies. In these instances the companies may leverage each others’ expertise, technologies or other intellectual property to expand their capacities for identifying, researching, analyzing and bringing to market new businesses and new products, business-development focuses on implementation of the strategic business plan through equity financing, acquisition/divestiture of technologies, products, and companies, plus the establishment of strategic partnerships where appropriate.

Business Development Analysts

0

Business Development Analysts are typically people who manage the strategic operations of a business by analyzing trends and patterns in data.

Business Development

Professionals face tough challenges in today’s competitive business environment. How do you continue to excel, move into firm leadership, and find life-work balance? Where do you find the time in the day to deal with stacks of paper, meetings, and multiple projects, people, and tasks that can well…drain your energy? How do you deliver quality to your clients while at the same time bringing in new business?

In the global knowledge economy where the speed of change increases almost daily, companies compete on innovation, creativity and their ability to conceive and transform new ideas and opportunities. Certain business development groups implement innovative planning for a successful business growth. Innovative ideas are applied to products and services on their way of production, business models, marketing, etc. It is also applied to the use of new materials, new combinations of materials, new technologies – new knowledge.

Generally, a business development group consists of field personnel who visit prospective new clients, analysts who craft project plans to recover value, and an inside sales group who assist with the marketing of the firm. What distinguishes all the personnel within the group is their knack for identifying opportunity and selling potential clients on the value of removing or modifying those business constraints.

Tackling these challenges alone can be overwhelming and the pathway to continued success unclear. Always seek clear objectives. Business development includes a number of techniques designed to grow an economic enterprise. Such techniques include assessments of marketing opportunities and target markets, intelligence gathering on customers and competitors, generating leads for possible sales, follow-up sales activity, formal proposal writing and business model design. Business development involves evaluating a business and then realizing its full potential, using such tools as marketing, sales, information management and customer service. These tasks are carried out by business development managers.

Business Development Manager is also known as economist or a business planner. A manager should devote his attention to business development and exploiting the business opportunities that are presented to him and his organization. Business development and making your organization successful is reliant on good knowledge of best practice and management theories. Adopt a team approach – work with others in pursuing common goals. For some time, business development managers have been stressing the urgent need for radical new approaches to the corporation. In this paradigm, the bottom line cedes its pre-eminence to the top: the corporation concentrates on developing new revenue streams from new products and services, while optimizing income from existing lines through innovative marketing and rapid exploitation of changing customer needs and tastes. The new kind of corporation is, above all, ‘agile’. Top business development managers fret about the lack of creativity and innovation beneath them, below the supertanker’s decks, but their own decision-making processes and command structures stultify efforts – even ones which they themselves have promoted – to develop the new and rejuvenate the old.

The business development manager must have considerable sales experience, be an organized and strong negotiator, and be aware of and responsive to economic trends, government policies and currency fluctuations. A university degree in one of the commerce, accounting, economics or business administration streams may prove useful (although not necessary) for entry into the position.

The business development manager works to expand a company’s product reach and profit revenues. They do this by identifying new markets and attracting new clients. The business development manager therefore researches new business opportunities, identifies likely sales points, develops strategic plans and sales strategies, and undertakes presentations to and negotiations with prospective customers.

In larger organizations the business development manager works with marketing and sales departments, government and industry peak bodies. Domestic and overseas travel is often a requirement of this position, and report writing is necessary. In smaller businesses, business development managers answer to owners/executives. However, in larger companies they are answerable to senior marketing and sales executives.

  • Prepare a detailed business plan so you will not lose sight of your goals and objectives.
  • Secure sufficient financial resources for future development or expansion.

In general, a business manager is responsible for running the business day-to-day. Whether, a managing director in a medium-sized company or a business unit director in a large corporate organization, this general management role is crucial to hold the business together, and to lead the changes which will ensure future success. Many people have experienced a manager who may not be “up to the job.’

In most cases they were very effective in their previous role, but then struggle when they enter the management arena. In sales management, for example, there is an all too familiar pattern of the best sales operative being promoted to manage the team without adequate thought to the development needs of that person. Coaching could provide the new sales manager with the business management skills required for success in his role.

Prepare a detailed business plan so you will not lose sight of your goals and objectives. A successful business development manager should always be seeking clear objectives particularly for those areas of the job where there are outputs you will be required to measure and be answerable for. Keeping the main objectives constantly in mind is essential even if they evolve or change a bit over time. They should be able to identify the key actions that the department is going to pursue. This shows clarity. A business development manager should be able to present the strategy clearly to its customers. The strategy should contain a clear vision followed by a set of clear time-bound actions in order to achieve consistent success.

Rulers and the Ruled

0

‘What ever good befalls you is from God; and whatever misfortune befalls you is from yourself.’

(The Holy Qur’an)

Islam assumes that the governing elite should be an example upholding the highest level of Islamic ethical conduct, both in their outer rituals as well as in their personal qualities. When, however, this is not realized a clear division appears between the class of rulers and the ruled. Such divergence in the history of Muslims has often led to confrontation and revolt.

An institutionalized separation between the rulers and the ruled had begun from the death of the fourth Caliph’ Hazrat Ali (Razi Tal’ah Anhoo), when the objectives and the life styles of the Umayyad Caliphs and courtiers diverged from the general Muslim public. This state of affairs continued almost throughout the entire history of Muslims. In the early days it was the Byzantine and Persian Sassanian administrators and court advisors who helped Muslim rulers in fiscal and other bureaucratic controls. These were gradually replaced by other non-Muslims and foreigners who not only dealt with matters of finance but also military affairs and foreign relations.

The Ulama of the courts were all highly domesticated, often chosen for their tolerance, support, and ability to rationalize the rulers’ decisions and actions according to Islamic legal and theological precept. These Ulama were often held in contempt by ordinary people, echoing what prophet had said.

’’ I fear for my people (on account of) the Ulama who condone the rulers.’’

For the most part court life and public life continued in parallel giving rise to a culture of accord and mutual understanding. As long as the ruler appeared to be reasonably just and not too oppressive, the two tiers co-existed. Occasionally, however, confrontations erupted and in most cases the rulers resorted to brutality and sheer force, manipulation and certain compromising adjustments. Because the Shi’i maintained that the right to rule Muslims belongs to the qualified Imam, in whose absence only the most pious and knowledgeable could rule, the majority of the shi’is either opposed or ignored the institution of kings and sultans. The Sunnis on the other hand often accepted the rule of any Muslim as long as he professed Islam and the majority of the populace acquiesced.

The general population had their own hierarchy of Ulama as well as of leaders of commerce, artisans, and landowners. The ‘’people’s system was allowed to function as long as the ruler was paid his taxes and allowed to requisition his recruits. These Ulama and mosques maintained their independence from ruling interest through endowment, often in the form of shops and other sources of income.

This was general arrangements until the emergence of the twentieth-century modern Muslim, ‘’State. ‘The model for which was imported from the West and forcibly grafted on to Muslim lands, for it was not an indigenously cultivated model. From then on all mosques and other Muslim institutions were absorbed by the governments, thus coming directly under centralized rule. By the middle of the century, the new-style governments controlled every aspect of the life of the Muslim masses. This resulted in the rise of numerous opposition groups, frequent confrontation, and all kinds of social upheavals and disasters. In the past the alienation of the rulers from the ruled had seldom resulted in such major clashes because people had been left alone to live their ‘’separate’’ lives.

The situation in contemporary ‘’ Muslim states’’ is such that the rulers version of Islam is often no more than a ritualistic veneer, bearing no resemblance to the divine prophetic model. Pious and serious Muslims often consider their Government as traitors to the true cause of Islam and all attempts to democratize or parliamentize their method of government have therefore resulted in failure or are mere cosmetic face-lift to ensure Western approval.
