Truth is somewhere hides under waters or beyond the highest mountains, or in heavens but it has such powerful existence that no one can underestimate it or estimate it to the direction of his own. Truth has its such existence, the presence that it connects, contributes and consummate.

Truth is the converse reflection of reality so harsh sometimes that its bitterness ruin even the beauty of it self’s existence. Sometimes truth has its beauty hide in innocence but it is seen mostly in practical world that innocence always hide the truth that attorney of the deceptive image.

Consequently, the world unknown is the world none other than human world of consciousness and under oceans of consciousness. As every one’s mind is actually another tip of another tongue. Slip of tongue actually ruins the mind’s imagination of the add sense reality. Slip of memory is actually worst than that.

The rule of consciousness is the most powerful it is been consume the mental energies from the universal truths around and most profoundly from the Truth Divine. Now when it comes to the vivid aspect of reality of Truth what actually it meant by implementing over the presence of existence in the living beings.

Reality always has its’ own shades and shapes, it has reflection, it has deception, it has perceptives and conceptions all are apparently hideous but in depth as a matter of fact very insidious.

The one who is actually attracted to this profound knowledge, infact Truth is a kind of rare knowledge which illuminates the all hidden dark corners with light with soul of right with spirit of order.

Abundantly, Truth is actually the sign of forwarding to the world unknown of rare mysteries that could open the doors to the light of soul’s life where the self respect of the conscience is the crown of all existing aspects.
Vividly, it has been seen that though truth in this universal reality may ruin the charm of attainments and the business of making money to ease the life but what happened when such actions convert and converse in the human characterization. Everything lost if the loss is of character.

This character of human is actually the soul of reality and of Truth so far the person is truth lover and spread it out in all aspects the Light of Truth becomes the knowledge in all the roads on all the paths to make the guidance of the character.

This forwarding of Truth is actually the transfer of a true soul from the base of the appearance to the peaks of realities where all the flowers are full of fragrance; all are attached to the universal acts to the heavenly rewards.

Who said that we have nothing on earth heavenly, we have the virtue of Truth the most highest in existence and the crown of all virtues with heavens’ powers. This is infact the Light of the soul, Light of the Knowledge, Light of Universe, Light of the Heavens and the Light of the Supreme Essence.

The world is following the footsteps of the super ego, which dominates the conscience kills it for bad reasons; murder it for the self sake for the expenses of the timely world to be hanged hereafter. World’s councils are dead when they make the characters realize only sufficiently the rights of their appearances for the livery of their skin keepings.

Unknown realities have the worth and have mysterious sounds, profoundly enough the gravity of attraction, they make suspicious to those who have nothing but curiosity to fulfill and vibre the sound whereas it has always the path of virtue and cloth of modesty for those who feel the essence of it.

Unknown Truths are also of the similar context, when they are hidden they must be the red carpet for the royal walk and when they disguise the apparent beauty and fall in to the rivers of dignity of reward then it comes and become forwarding to the world unknown where nothing lies, nothing sense but the Truth.

There are uncovered Truths of the soul’s world the one who be the mystic to peep inside to gain the pearls to quest them to gather them he/she be the respected most honored most.

Character of human is like scale, like needles of clock, like to and fro make sounds sometimes becomes quite rare of rare the character is who knows about itself in the original sense and out of thousand tripe nine stays failed in this effort.

Whatever be the course of life for the character, whatever be the fate of the character which is mostly different from each other and so on the one who succeed in this race is the one who is higher in the virtue of recognizing the Truth of his/her character’s fate and wearing the Truth in all the acts of the human deeds so that the deeds become the speech themselves for the character to be bestowed upon the fast tracks in the turbulences if life’s trapped circumstances.

When the character awakes and whence the sleep, when the fate awakes whence the sleep, when the conscience is awakes whence the sleep, when the consciousness is awakes whence the sleep, when the act is awakes and whence sleep, when the virtue is awakes and whence it sleep and when the Truth is awakes it never sleeps, when the Light is awakes it never sleeps to darken any course of life either on earth neither in heavens. When the Knowledge awakes it never sleeps as it follows the same measurement the Truth does the light does ………..

To say, to write to color it not that easy what words can express, the impression of the feel and to feel the life is actually the whole core reality, who feels can sustain, can vibe, can hold on can make the Divine relations.
No one can erase the writ of fate, no one maketh the own character but the fate, no one conceive or perceive the Truth but the digger who carbon the way forwarding to the world of existence on non existed to the scene, seen and the unseen…….

Truth is though stranger than fiction but Truth highlights and makes the difference to know of knowing of the worth living of worth Divine………….

Mind is mysteriously extreme and extremely huge factory of sounds of thoughts. Mind is the partner role of brain and brain is the labyrinth of various numerous and unlimited imaginative perceptives, predictive innovations and periodic assertiveness.

Mind is the huge factory of memory making, recalling the moments saved in it sometimes it make so vague images that could hardly memorize by the time be needed. And sometimes it’s so active at neurons that one may get full-fledged webbed in so many and various cores of actions.

Mind is actually a man; this mind is infact a main magnetic and gigantic drive which controls the leadings of actions and reactions. The mind product is actually the action product, the mind thought is actually the converse reality for the appearance but it is also true that’s sometimes external realities effect the inner realities the appearance may act and contrast the image with the inner life of thought and imageries.

Despite of the theories around the world regarding brain and mind mystery the mind is the house that holds so many wanderings of thoughts and memories. The wandering of mind brings the frets sometimes, sometimes the joys, sometimes inclined towards physical realities, sometimes towards innovative and mysterious realities, sometimes beyond reaching vibes; sometimes the nearest and tiniest objects and sometimes just to kill the worldly time …….

The wandering of mind is a myth sometimes the involved needed but human start taking flight to another place to another world, to another personalities to know them to scroll their fate stories ………

Theories of mind and its function are numerous. Earliest recorded speculations are from the likes of Zoroaster, the Buddha, Plato, Aristotle, and other ancient Greek, Indian and, later, Islamic and medieval European philosophers.

Which attributes make up the mind is much debated. Some psychologists argue that only the “higher” intellectual functions constitute mind, particularly reason and memory. In this view the emotions—love, hate, fear, joy—are more primitive or subjective in nature and should be seen as different from the mind as such. Others argue that various rational and emotional states cannot be so separated, that they are of the same nature and origin, and should therefore be considered all part of what we call the mind.

In popular usage mind is frequently synonymous with thought: the private conversation with ourselves that we carry on “inside our heads.” Thus we “make up our minds,” “change our minds” or are “of two minds” about something. One of the key attributes of the mind in this sense is that it is a private sphere to which no one but the owner has access.

No one else can “know our mind.” They can only interpret what we consciously or unconsciously communicate. Broadly speaking, mental faculties are the various functions of the mind, or things the mind can “do”.
Thought is a mental activity which allows human beings to make sense of things in the world, and to represent and interpret them in ways that are significant, or which accord with their needs, attachments, goals, commitments, plans, ends, desires, etc.

Thinking involves the symbolic or semiotic mediation of ideas or data, as when we form concepts, engage in problem solving, reasoning and making decisions. Words that refer to similar concepts and processes include deliberation, cognition, ideation, discourse and imagination.

Thinking is sometimes described as a “higher” cognitive function and the analysis of thinking processes is a part of cognitive psychology. It is also deeply connected with our capacity to make and use tools; to understand cause and effect; to recognize patterns of significance; to comprehend and disclose unique contexts of experience or activity; and to respond to the world in a meaningful way.

Memory is the ability to preserve, retain, and subsequently recall, knowledge, information or experience. Although memory has traditionally been a persistent theme in philosophy, the late nineteenth and early twentieth century’s also saw the study of memory emerge as a subject of inquiry within the paradigms of cognitive psychology. In recent decades, it has become one of the pillars of a new branch of science called cognitive neuroscience, a marriage between cognitive psychology and neuroscience.

Imagination is the activity of generating or evoking novel situations, images, ideas or other qualia in the mind. It is a characteristically subjective activity, rather than a direct or passive experience. The term is technically used in psychology for the process of reviving in the mind percepts of objects formerly given in sense perception.

Since this use of the term conflicts with that of ordinary language, some psychologists have preferred to describe this process as “imaging” or “imagery” or to speak of it as “reproductive” as opposed to “productive” or “constructive” imagination. Things that are imagined are said to be seen in the “mind’s eye”.
Among the many practical functions of imagination are the ability to project possible futures (or histories), to “see” things from another’s perspective, and to change the way something is perceived, including to make decisions to respond to, or enact, what is imagined.

Consciousness in mammals (this includes humans) is an aspect of the mind generally thought to comprise qualities such as subjectivity, sentience, and the ability to perceive the relationship between oneself and one’s environment. It is a subject of much research in philosophy of mind, psychology, neuroscience, and cognitive science.

Some philosophers divide consciousness into phenomenal consciousness, which is subjective experience itself, and access consciousness, which refers to the global availability of information to processing systems in the brain.

Phenomenal consciousness has many different experienced qualities, often referred to as qualia. Phenomenal consciousness is usually consciousness of something or about something, a property known as intentionality in philosophy of mind.

Philosophy of mind describes the nature of the mind, mental events, mental functions, mental properties, consciousness and their relationship to the physical body. The mind-body problem, i.e. the relationship of the mind to the body, is commonly seen as the central issue in philosophy of mind, although there are other issues concerning the nature of the mind that do not involve its relation to the physical body.

Dualism and monism are the two major schools of thought that attempt to resolve the mind-body problem. Dualism is the position that mind and body are in some way separate from each other. It can be traced back to Plato, Aristotle and the Samkhya and Yoga schools of Hindu philosophy, but it was most precisely formulated by René Descartes in the 17th century.

Substance dualists argue that the mind is an independently existing substance, whereas Property dualists maintain that the mind is a group of independent properties that emerge from and cannot be reduced to the brain, but that it is not a distinct substance.

The 20th century philosopher Martin Heidegger suggested that subjective experience and activity (i.e. the “mind”) cannot be made sense of in terms of Cartesian “substances” that bear “properties” at all (whether the mind itself is thought of as a distinct, separate kind of substance or not).

This is because the nature of subjective, qualitative experience is incoherent in terms of – or semantically incommensurable with the concept of – substances that bear properties. This is a fundamentally ontological argument.

The wandering of mind is the approach to the unknowns, to unseen, to the miraculous attachments, to the involvement of natural resources, inclination to instinctive realities and to because of the sense’s flights ….. However the perception is there, inception is there and insidious signs are there to the sensitive souls who can tele and understand the layers and waves of the mind workings.

Positiveness, negativeness, assertiveness and perceptiveness are the web for the wandering of mind they keep on the track if the existence and existing realities stay in shape and they will be open to the hideous ways if they can’t be maneuvered well ………

All and all have reasons at core, in depth and in reality but are they actually? Sometimes we stay happy for the reasons unknown and sometimes we stay delusional for unknown reasons, sometimes melancholic, sometimes tragic and sometimes beyond the boundary of human existence and even so easy to forget the miraculous providence of truth and reality. What lies under the sun so majestic that these unknown reasons are all around?

These are not easily comprehended all the time in all conjuncture or conjecture. However it is the part of human wisdom that humans usually associates all the available resources to the science of senses and then elaborate it to the certain levels of realities so far every human has no such norms or psychological enhancement that get all the core realities into the surface of existence but even than every human lives due to the certain reasoning of environmental resources.

Emotions are the most parallel and unparallel scale of this study unknown reasons sometimes they are intensively so high that the wrong side seems nothing but the right to achieve. Sometimes the righteous are declared as the astray.

Universal truths are also on the same measures, are evident but reveal are the part of one’s character as ‘A Man’s character is what his Fate’ so the connectivity of fate with character and character’s domicile what the free will and destiny marks with in lines of hands. To erase the misfortunes from the hand lines are impossible but persistence over memory cannon can be the favorable to delete the footprints of evil tragic past.

The rhetoric questions in human life regarding uncalled tragic events or accidents never are answered in the consequences they happened. Fate brings them as the matter of fact for happenings and they just happened sometimes human consciousness be healed with the apparent time frame of the factual reality of healing remedy of time and circumstances.

The reasons which are searched they are actually the fate lines of happenings the reasons which are not found or quested they are the subdued to be hidden from human eye as hidden realities are favorable for human consensus. For unseen realities, they are very absorbed, very sharp and very alarming ……….

The focal point is that reasons which we understand are just the part of life where we can travel above and think beyond… But the reasons we search and we quest logic to identify or rectify happenings with evidence but we got nothing but wanderings of mind are the reasons which draw line between human acts, human practices and Divine acts and Divine laws. Divinity is the face of Miracle ……

Miracles happened where the impossibility lies according to human mind, senses and consciousness but actually the Truth, The core Reality is nothing is Impossible for THE CREATOR, THE GOD, THE LORD, and THE ONE WHO CONTROLS……

The unknown reasons are always around us either we can estimate them we can feel them or either we can’t …… The reasons brought life into structure and sometimes structure of life question for reasons. It’s all about known reasons which actually lead by unknown reasons…….

Conscience, Consciousness Connection, Connotation with Creator’s Commandments

Prophesies are nearly to be fulfilled the true ones and this just been prophesized by the Prophets of all times and ages by the Will of Creator. One of the most important reliable and prophesized connections is also subject to the development of the wheel of life, fate and time; the major sources that could uplift or down size the human efforts in disguise.

These three major aspects may be the blessing in disguise and flourish one with the golden spoon and golden paradise life on the phase of earth temporarily and even these are the same aspects that could be as vulgar, as tempest, as tsunami that could never forgive the circumstances plunged into the darkest corner of them .
One of the profound realities that the self consciousness/the self conscience is actually connected and alarmed with the Creator’s Providence, Dignity, Magnificence and Proof of Sound Existence.

The Creator in all aspects disguise as Light; though it is the Light of Sight, the Light of heavens or Earth or the whole Universe.

Rarely has it been originated that someone tries hard to be close to the Creator, as Creator is the most
Merciful, Beneficent and Most Kind so He THE DIVINE LIGHT is always nearer to His All Creations, especially the Crown Creation the Humans.

Infact He Himself says, ‘We are nearer than your juggler vein’ the closeness or the Presence of Divine in the whole Universe is obvious and very clear to the modern world of believers. The cause and effects are for the believers, the heathens and the pagans can’t be on the level where the faith consumers can…..

Now the Sufi aspect and the mystic major aspect is that the one whose heart consoles, council and condole the Remembrance of Lord will be on the guided path and once the guidance be upon oneself the self get aware of the mysteries of thine and mine. The heart is the major organ that consumes life circle and the light circle it is next and foremost important treasure of all.

Once the heart become alive with the power of believing than after the power of regular practice of remembrance, the self conscience is the key character of the light towards the road of guidance and route towards the firm faith and enlightens the mind with wisdom and Divine source of Knowledge.

The self awareness and awakening is that course and chapter of life that one fell asleep even than self journey continue towards the spiritual ways to understand the Creator’s given life and its tool to be more faithful and enhancing in practice for the better place in Lord’s Eye.

Similarly, whence the self conscience be on the guided and righteous path than the heart to mind the spiritual layers could convert the spiritual character whole in shape with the clothes of light and enters to the shut doors and even the darkest closed windows of mind. This spirit than also contains the free alliance and radiance towards the consciousness of human body and inner aspects.

The light is the source of mysteriously, uniquely and divinely motivational, spiritual, inspirational and innovational kinda spark that could be anything but essentially vital for the human life externally and internally.

When human open eyes the seeing light to the exterior to universe has the same depth as the human shut the eyes and got light to travel and see through the dreams or images light in both ways the light enlightens the core of the eye and make it see through things in appearance and as well in depth in reality.

When consciousness actually connected with Lord’s bestowed guidance than one can make the mark over shoulder to be on the right track of achievement. Conscience connection developed through heart, Consciousness connection depends upon conscience heart connection and then this consciousness connection built up the mind factors in all the respective ways to be connected and connoted with Creator’s Will. The Creator’s Will is His given words for one’s Fate of Faith or in other words Faith of Fate.

It is right to say that Mystics, Sufi’s, the Faith holders and the Humanitarian servants they polish their accountability and totality through these stages few are blessed by birth and few do efforts by committing mistakes as normal beings and then repent to the level to gain such positioning.

The Prophets, The Messengers and Seers are the chosen people; they are as innocent as the lamb and as pure as the spring of milk in paradise so they can’t gain the Lord’s connection by effort but by Divine Blessing.
But it is also not wrong to say that each and every human can chose this way to purify one self’s soul and be close to the creator by developing the connection through the conscience, consciousness and through conversation in solitude by making prayers as Lord is all hearing and the most Merciful can select His beings by their pure hearts and innocence and by their simplicity and their faith.

The one who can bathe his soul by believing, than raise up to the true favors of faith, than be true and simple to the needs of self being and the beings similar to him, polish the simplicity, regain the innocence to the level of modesty and consoles the pure heart can hopefully the 6 major spectacular C’s in his or her life conscience, consciousness connection and connote with Creation’s commandments.

In the age of science and materialism we forget the actual learnings of our faith we are harassed with frustrations and looking and searching up short cuts and short lived ways to the material one world goals for us. We completely ruin ourselves by spiritual levels and therefore our souls are starving for the spiritual diets.
Let us ourselves one by one try to make self peace, try to make self effort of contented pure innocent heart. Lets us try to make self dialysis, self connotations, self analysis, self awareness, self declarations, self esteems, self controls, self and self enlightenment, self conscience awakening, make journey to self soul, self conscience to self consciousness that may develop connection and connotations to Creator so that we may have our splendid here after results .

Come let us have the sight to sow, to reap, to weave, to culminate, to cultivate , to see through things beyond to their appearance to realities, to their main meanings, to the level where our fate may stand up and praise our wills to rise up to this level. Be become praise worthy by praising the Creator by servitude the Master as he commanded ……..

Let us try …… Let us try self by self……

As liar never has an identity, how often I think this dilemma yet the only identity of lying within the consequence of struggle and just live in a moment.

Yes, how often I think how malice and dainty it looks to the outer world and to the tongue when its train goes on lying and keeps lying but what happen when fool’s paradise be ruined or captured by the guards of reality? Yeah what happened?

The consummate struggle of pretention could ruin one’s originality on the surface; it becomes the face full of scars, the disgrace of this act covers the whole cloth of soul with filthy cloud of smoke.

Yes how often I come across to have all the beasts and howling wolves, they exactly seem like the liars. Optimist, Pessimist, Realist….. Who wins, is Opportunist and most of time in such Era; the opportunist is sharp minded sharp tongued liar……

To lie is an alloy to truth and the satanic souls enjoy it while mixing with the truth with the length it could reveal like reality but hidden there are some aspects which are nothing but self created bluff.

We keep our values in practice and they themselves convert and become the virtues, whatever we perform we indulge the same, we indulge the same whatever we perform……The matter to think is what actually we indulge to consummate….. To vicissitude…….To proclaim……..To practice…….To perform….

The little fabricated story among many:

Once two friends went to jungle, laughing in a good mood just to have fun, they have adorn the get up of hunters but they are not actually, they walk far behind the distance where they got wilderness. When they got here in such wilderness they got weird vibes, weird sounds, weird sense that make their hairs stands on end.
At once the second one begins to share one of his secret story, the mysterious one, thrilled and horror prevailing.

‘He narrated that I have been a child when I was trapped to the house in solitude and I was not aware in that age how to handle solitude I need to play with the play house in the basement of the house. Usually I need to talk to myself but that day I heard voices ….’

The jungle was very dark, very descend, it looks that it had way to in but no way to out. Both friends have loaded equipments with them yet the heart beats of both were striking higher to the range of tower clock.
The first friend is actually irritated of the outer dark weird place and the narration of second one but at that moment it just a moment of traps that could be better with him than any other beast.

‘I heard voices …….. they were original but seems deceptive to me as I was kid a mere kid I was usual in my practice, as usual start voicing myself and start my play with the house, I always thought so where as are my dispels to whom I usually talk or where are my soul players as the existing human characters never suits me well, and use to rejoice in my own split personalities among others………’

‘I don’t know exactly if any other celestial being is in existence really or it is the part of human mental foreplay. However, whence I played that day I was terribly shaken by the unheard voice I have never heard before ………..’

The first person was listening deeply and astonishingly to this tale of his friend whom he had never discussed earlier and never mentioned his intense feelings, the hidden intense emotions …. Actually he was reluctant that they fast friends and most occasionally they are aside with each other than why today at this weird place, perhaps such place is salient and he is intentionally pre-occupying with such phantoms ……

‘Yeah that day I was alone but I feel the presence that I am not alone in my home solitude, hence I start arguing with the unheard voices and keep practicing every now and then when ever be alone at home and after sometimes I realized that existence and presence of unknown I never tried to declare them the wrong ones or never categorize them as the in goodness but I just sway with them in the leisure of company at least .……

‘Sometimes I speak and I feel they hear and sometimes I heard the voices and just stay quiet to understand the language……. I strongly feel them around but I was always afraid that no one human get the trace of it so that my leisure celestial company may not leave me again in the dark, descend decorative solitude to be alone and as searcher for the meaning and purpose of life’

The first friend did not quested anything and didn’t inquired anything about his telling as he profoundly of the view inside him that he is just painting the consequence of existing time with his alarming sense of strangeness that could terrified me possibly in such weird situation because most fast and close friends sense and know the weak points of another so he is nothing but a dude who is humiliating me in such aspect indirect with his fabricated nonsense story. But he neither interrupted him and nor did mention any word against his story.

“ I wonder always the surprises of young and growing age, how they make their marks over the senses, conscience and consciousness, we just make ourselves the plunged wheel that revolves around the time and fate and we hang ourselves between understanding, interpreting and predicting the life happenings to the wisdom and intellect level all the senses are connected with all the existences of presence though they are seen or unseen…..’’

He was deeply philosophically inclined to impel to state his feelings and the childhood happenings or just the assumptions according to his friend as he is not completely enhancing or trusting his all the words he know that he usually take the aid of few non happenings or allured assumptions …..

Same in an instance there were stunning voices from the dark trees of that place the second friend who was before that so much debating now trembling and so terrified at the same time it was so sudden that first friend just used his shot gun and shot twice and thrice.

At once they both did not realized that what was the being they shot dead as they both consider that it must be some beast. But enough to their wonder, there was nothing but a crow …….

The friend who was so talkative earlier this not dead quiet …..The first friend softly spoke:

“Nothing else, I KILLED THE LIAR….. No other voice will utter now …. As Quiet people have the loudest minds ’

It is just not the emotion but more than that, very strong, very fascinating and it trapped me in the crown of jewel, the best of all, the rest of all, quest of all and nest of all …… ‘Myself’ is a core of that crown of jewel, it contains selves, many selves, but most known the seven selves as explained by Khalil Jibran:

‘’In the silent hour of the night, as I lay half asleep, my seven selves sat together and thus conversed in whispers:

First Self: Here, in this madman, I have dwelt all these years, with naught to do but renew his pain by day and recreate his sorrow by night. I can bear my fate no longer, and now I must rebel.

Second Self: Yours is a better lot than mine, brother, for it is given me to be this madman’s joyous self. I laugh his laughter and sing his happy hours, and with thrice winged feet I dance his brighter thoughts. It is I that would rebel against my weary existence.

Third Self: And what of me, the love-ridden self, the flaming brand of wild passion and fantastic desires? It is I the love-sick self who would rebel against this madman.

Fourth Self: I, amongst you all, am the most miserable, for naught was given me but the odious hatred and destructive loathing. It is I, the tempest-like self, the one born in the black caves of Hell, who would protest against serving this madman.

Fifth Self: Nay, it is I, the thinking self, the fanciful self, the self of hunger and thirst, the one doomed to wander without rest in search of unknown things and things not yet created; it is I, not you, who would rebel.

Sixth Self: And I, the working self, the pitiful labourer, who, with patient hands, and longing eyes, fashion the days into images and give the formless elements new and eternal forms — it is I, the solitary one, who would rebel against this restless madman.

Seventh Self: How strange that you all would rebel against this man, because each and every one of you has a preordained fate to fulfil. Ah! Could I but be like one of you, a self with a determined lot! But I have none; I am the do-nothing self, the one who sits in the dumb, empty nowhere and nowhen, when you are busy re-creating life. Is it you or I, neighbours, who should rebel?

When the seventh self thus spake the other six selves looked with pity upon him but said nothing more; and as the night grew deeper one after the other went to sleep enfolded with a new and happy submission.

But the seventh self remained watching and gazing at nothingness, which is behind all things.’’

Self is the disclosure of many aspects, of many jewels, of many shells, having pearls of sands, having soap of water, of surf of waters on the shores; it has shadow very rare and exceptional sinking water, deep, blue and treasure holding.

Simon contends that these elite, returning to an Iraq made up of different ethnic, religious, and social groups, had to weld these disparate elements into a nation. Pan-Arabism was to be the new ideological source of unity and loyalty.

Schools and the army became the means through which to implant it, and a series of military coups gave the officers the chance to act in its name. The result was an abortive revolt against Britain in 1941. And the legacy of the revolt is still apparent in the next two generations of Iraqi officers that led to the regime of Saddam Hussein.

This updated edition locates the sources of Iraqi nationalism in the experience of these ex-Ottoman army officers who used the emergent pan-Arabism to weld a disparate population into a nation.

Simon shows that the relationships forged between Iraqi officers and Germans in Istanbul before WWI left deep legacies that go a long way toward explaining the disastrous war against Great Britain in 1941, the rejection of liberal values, the revolution of 1958 in which the military finally seized power, and the outlook of the leadership recently overthrown by American and British armies. These army officers who turned to Germany were not Nazis.

However, they did like the German idea of cultural nationalism, which they were taught in Ottoman schools in Istanbul. In these schools, they received their first taste of westernization at the hands of German military officers. Education was, thus, the key link between Germany and Iraq.

German radio broadcasts reached the Middle East in the 1930s and 1940s. These broadcasts emphasized British imperialism and its weakness while contrasting that with German strength and its support for pan-Arabism. German agents were also in Iraq. By 1942, British intelligence concluded that 95 percent of the Iraqi population was pro-German.

The most important chapter in the book is the chapter regarding German influence on Iraqi education. The British had lost control of Iraqi education in 1923. Much like in Germany under the Nazis, Iraqi schools would teach order, discipline, cooperation, love of the fatherland, and the role of the individual in service to the nation. Language and national history was emphasized. Students were taught to abandon their comfortable life and sacrifice for the nation.

Nationalists and pan-Arabists fought over control of education. From 1936 to 1940, historic “national” heroes became “Arab” heroes. Arab strength and unity was emphasized. Teachers, in effect, became political agents. The British were concerned about the violent anti-imperial and anti-British tone of the textbooks. Anti-British student riots and an increased militarism in schools also worried the British.

Following a 1933 military victory over the Assyrians, support for the Iraqi military grew. While the British did regain control of education in the 1940s, many Iraqis believed their form of “liberalism” was a sham and resisted it.

The 1958 revolution brought back Arab nationalists who had been underground since 1941. By the mid-1960s, nationalism had once again become emphasized and accounts of the 1941 revolution had become a source of inspiration for Iraqi youth, including Saddam Hussein.
